Passing the General Development Test entitles the adult student to access certain vocational education programs at the secondary level or to access certain construction trades.
Math Foundations has been such a positive and helpful experience for me. It’s more than just a math class; it’s a place where you can learn at your own pace, build confidence, and feel supported throughout the process. What I appreciate most is that it gives students the opportunity to strengthen their skills without feeling pressured or judged. It reminds you that everyone learns differently and that it’s okay to need extra time or guidance. The class creates such a welcoming and encouraging environment, which makes a huge difference, especially for students who may have struggled in the past. I genuinely believe Math Foundations is an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to improve, grow, and feel more confident in themselves and their abilities.
Math was always something I struggled with, and I came into the class with very little confidence. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep up. As the course went on, things started to make sense, and I became more confident in my abilities. I’m feeling proud of myself and much less afraid of math.
School has never really been easy for me, especially math. I used to get frustrated really fast and sometimes I just felt like I wasn’t good at it. This class was different. I started understanding things that I never understood before, and little by little I got more confident. I’m still not saying math is easy, but now I know I can do it if I keep trying
Math was always really hard for me. In high school I never really passed it but I kept going to the next grade anyways. So I would sit in class and most of the time I had no idea what was going on. I just felt like I wasn’t good at school. Here I started to understand math more. Some things that never made sense to me before finally make sense. I still struggle and I still get things wrong, but I don’t feel like I can’t do it anymore. It gave me more confidence to stay in school and keep trying.
I honestly almost cried when I found out I passed my math exam and actually got a really good mark. I was so used to failing math that I didn’t think I could ever do that good. What I like about this class is that the math is divided into sections and we only have to focus on one section and one exam at a time. We also do practice tests a lot, so when the real test comes I feel more ready. I used to have really bad test anxiety and sometimes my mind would just go blank. Here we actually learn ways to deal with that. Doing well on that first exam changed something for me. I finally felt like maybe I’m not bad at math and I can actually do this. I love adult ed. I feel like I have another chance here and honestly it’s a great place to be.”

Our Academic Counsellor is available to provide information, assistance and guidance to help with educational goal, career decision-making, information regarding vocational training programs, graduation requirements and course pre-requisites for CEGEP programs.
Tutoring Program
We have a team of qualified, dedicated and knowledgeable tutors that help our students to tap into their full potential. Our specialized tutors work closely with our teachers to identify the individualized needs of each student to tailor their learning experience.
Reeducation Counselor
Our Counsellor in Reeducation assists and supports students who experience behavioral difficulties and/or learning disabilities. Appropriate support measures are put in place to assist students in their educational path and their social development.
Mentorship Program
The goal of the program is to provide students with positive role models to whom they feel responsible in order to encourage them to stay in school Mentors are to serve as examples of perseveance and determination, as well as provide emotional support and guidance. We also aim to foster a sense of community and belonging, countering the feelings of isolation and alienation that are all too common in today’s young adults.

JFK Adult Education Centre facilitated obtaining my nursing prerequisites. I was able to register in chemistry and now I got admitted to Dawson College for nursing. The faculty and staff at JFK adult centre truly care about their students' success, and I am grateful to be one of their students.

Hello, just an introduction my name is Elizabeth and to share my path and journey with you, I came to JFK 15yrs ago from the United States, since I didn't know what to do with myself and was good at Math I enrolled in the Accounting program and got a DEP. I soon had my daughter and Son and pursued other ventures. I'm a mom, actor, model, flight attendant and student to name a few knots under my belt. Covid has thought us or me many things, always have more than one plan.

I had two subjects left for my diploma after struggling for many years I finally got a committed team at John f Kennedy, my amazing attendant Tess Mancini put the show on the road and aided greatly in my success. This experience has taught me that no matter what challenges are thrown at you (disabled or not) remaining, positive resilient and consistent one can arise to any challenge… and I plan to.
